Weekly Treats! Marvel NOW! Spaceman & Scott Pilgrim

NOW! things are starting to move. This week sees the release of to titles in the Marvel NOW! relaunch: Iron Man #1 (Marvel) by Keiron Gillen & Greg Land features a waaay cool-looking new armour fully justified because the lethal techno-virus Extremis is out in the big wide world. And then there's Deapool #1 (Marvel) illustrated by the excellent Tony Moore and co-written by Gary Duggan & Brian Posehn and with a Geoff Darrow cover no less.

There's more number ones as DC fill the Before Watchmen silence with Before Watchmen: Moloch #1 (DC) of 2 by J Michael Straczynski & Eduaro Risso. “We are doing great things here, Edgar. Amazing things.” And finally Buffy the Vamipre Slayer: Willow - Wonderland #1 (Dark Horse) by Jeff Parker & Brian Ching. Where has all the magic gone? Willow aims to find out.

The books next and in Spaceman: The Deluxe Edition (Vetigo) Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso bring their street-wise storytelling to the world of sci-fi and if you thought that the dialogue in 100 Bullets took some re-reading to decipher the street slang, wait until you get your teeth into Azzarello's future-speak. Risso's art is as seedy and economical as usual conveying the poor and depraved with heavy-eyed resignation and building a sad vulnerability into the powerfully built protagonist caught up in a high-profile kidnapping.

If you haven't heard of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo vol. 1 (Vertigo) then I'm strangely impressed. Assuming that you have I'll simply say that this first volume adapts the first half of the first book in Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy - the plan is to release two volumes for each novel. The pedigree of the creators involved is good with Denise Mina handling the words and Leonard Manco illustrating which continues a partnership first seen with their Hellblazer stories. Andrea Mutti provides the illustrations for the sections of the story that split to the private detective character.

Also out: there's the second coloured, hard backed volume of Scott Pilgrim vol. 2: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Oni) which includes sketches, location photos and an 8-page strip Bryan Lee O'Malley produced during the time SP vol 2 was released. The Flash vol 1: Move Forward (DC) finally sees the light of day re-printing the first 8 issues of the DC52 re-launch written and illustrated by Francis Manapul. And if you're really good maybe Father Christmas will bring the limited edition of Avengers vs. X-Men (Marvel); hardcover and collecting the full 12 issue series plus the 6 issue Avengers vs X-Men: Vs. series and 3 issues of the online strip.

Full list of releases can be found under the tab at the top.
